“Because I Said So!”

Read: Luke 1- 5
But Mom why can’t I do it? Why? Why? Then those four dreaded words …. BECAUSE I SAID SO! Oh how I hated that statement. Who did she think she was that I was to listen just because she ended our conversation with those dreaded four words, “because I said so!” At least give me a reason why. At the ripe ole age of 13 I vowed that I would never say that to my children. I will always give them a reason as to why I said something. Well here I am 56 and do you know how many times I told my children and now my grandchildren those four dreaded words… “because I said so”, and I did not give a reason. Oh, mirror, mirror on the wall, I am my mother after all.
A very wise fisher of men listen to our Lord as he said,” Simon, put out into the deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon replied, ” Master, we have worked all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you said so, I will let down the nets.” Simon was a very wise man. He did not rebuke Jesus. He did not question Jesus. He did not need a reason from Jesus He did as he was told because Jesus said so.
Do we listen to Jesus like Simon did? Or do you behave like a 13 year old who thinks she needs a reason to follow Jesus instructions.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, May I have the faith of Simon to follow your instructions. May I not question your instructions or your answer to my prayers. May I respond like Simon, “Master …because you said so”. Amen
